Last year Alexis was awarded the CHC President’s Scholarship for her tuition at Mills College in Oakland, CA where she is studying Chemistry. Alexis has dreams of being the first to graduate college in her family. After her first year of college, she realized there was a lack of support for those in her similar situation of first generation college student, low income level, and minority in a STEM field. In order to meet others like herself, she helped create the first club of its kind on her campus which was inclusive of these backgrounds and educates on resources that are helpful around campus. Alexis hopes to continue helping other people by sharing her struggles and experiences and giving confidence to those in her community to pursue goals. Her CHC scholarship will allow Alexis to continue her studies and come closer to realizing her dream of being the first in her family to graduate from college.
